San Gimigniano area Lodging Review

Villa Bacciolo Bed and Breakfast, San Gimigniano

This B&B is actually located in San Donato about 5 kilometers from San Gimigniano.  It was very easy to book by email.  I contacted the owners and they confirmed the room availability, did not request a deposit!, and just asked that we reconfirm two days prior to arrival.  The double room was 95Euro/night with breakfast included. We paid cash.

The location is superb for views: you can see San Gimigniano shimmering in the near distance and the rolling hills of Tuscany all around.  They have a spectacular garden patio with beautiful flowering plants.  We sat there for awhile enjoying the quiet and the views.  They served appetizers and drinks until 9pm and breakfast in the morning on the patio.

Our room was in a casita apart from the main building.  The room was attractive and good sized with a big bed, free standing wardrobe, table and stool.  The bed itself was the least comfortable of the trip--kinda hammock-y and very firm.  The pillows again were too hard for me, sigh.  Our room had big glass doors and big glass windows but the curtains were dark enough that I could sleep into the morning.  It also had a cute table and chairs outside the door, under one of the beautiful flowering plants.

The bathroom was attractive but poorly laid out.  The sink was too big for the space; the shower was very small and slippery and could have easily been a foot larger. I liked that there was a window in the bathroom.

Hubby killed a huge spider, a caterpillar and the biggest mosquito (?) I have ever seen!  There was no AC so the windows were open allowing these visitor free pass to terrorize me!

Breakfast was good continental type fare but the coffee was too weak for me.

Overall, I'd rate this place 3.5 of 5 stars.  I'd recommend it for the views, the ease of making a reservation, nice staff, good price. You definitely need a car if staying here.
